Tena kho pana samayena Bhagavato paṁsukūlaṁ uppannaṁ hoti. Atha kho Bhagavato etad-ahosi: “Kattha nu kho ahaṁ paṁsukūlaṁ dhoveyyan?”-ti

Atha kho Bhagavato etad-ahosi: “Kimhi nu kho ahaṁ paṁsukūlaṁ parimaddeyyan?”-ti

Atha kho Sakko Devānam-indo, Bhagavato cetasā cetoparivitakkam-aññāya, mahatiṁ silaṁ upanikkhipi: “Idha Bhante Bhagavā paṁsukūlaṁ parimaddatū.” ti

Atha kho Bhagavato etad-ahosi: “Kimhi nu kho ahaṁ ālambitvā uttareyyan?”-ti BJT: uttareyanti, printer's error.02

Atha kho Kakudhe adhivatthā devatā Bhagavato cetasā cetoparivitakkam-aññāya, sākhaṁ onamesi: BJT, Thai, ChS: onāmesi, the word is from o + namati, it is not clear to me how we would get a long vowel in the stem form here.03 “Idha Bhante Bhagavā ālambitvā uttaratū.” ti

Atha kho Bhagavato etad-ahosi: “Kimhi nu kho ahaṁ paṁsukūlaṁ vissajjeyyan?”-ti

Atha kho Sakko Devānam-indo, Bhagavato cetasā cetoparivitakkam-aññāya, mahatiṁ silaṁ upanikkhipi: “Idha Bhante Bhagavā paṁsukūlaṁ vissajjetū.” ti

Atha kho Uruvelakassapo jaṭilo, tassā rattiyā accayena, yena Bhagavā tenupasaṅkami, upasaṅkamitvā Bhagavantaṁ etad-avoca: “Kālo Mahāsamaṇa niṭṭhitaṁ bhattaṁ.

Kiṁ nu kho Mahāsamaṇa, nāyaṁ pubbe idha pokkharaṇī, sāyaṁ idha pokkharaṇī? Na-y-imā silā pubbe upanikkhittā: kenimā silā upanikkhittā? Na-y-imassa Kakudhassa pubbe sākhā onatā, sāyaṁ sākhā onatā?” ti

“Idha me Kassapa paṁsukūlaṁ uppannaṁ ahosi. Tassa mayhaṁ Kassapa etad-ahosi: ‘Kattha nu kho ahaṁ paṁsukūlaṁ dhoveyyan?’-ti

Atha kho Kassapa Sakko Devānam-indo, mama cetasā cetoparivitakkam-aññāya, pāṇinā pokkharaṇiṁ khaṇitvā, maṁ etad-avoca: ‘Idha Bhante Bhagavā paṁsukūlaṁ dhovatū,’ ti sāyaṁ ChS adds: Kassapa, here and below.04 amanussena pāṇinā khatā ChS: khaṇitā; PTS, Thai: khanitā, showing the n/ṇ alternation.05 pokkharaṇī.

Tassa mayhaṁ Kassapa etad-ahosi: ‘Kimhi nu kho ahaṁ ālambitvā uttareyyan?’-ti

Atha kho Kassapa Kakudhe adhivatthā devatā, mama cetasā cetoparivitakkam-aññāya, sākhaṁ onamesi: ‘Idha Bhante Bhagavā ālambitvā uttaratū,’ ti svāyaṁ āharahattho Kakudho.

Tassa mayhaṁ Kassapa etad-ahosi: ‘Kimhi nu kho ahaṁ paṁsukūlaṁ vissajjeyyan?’-ti

Atha kho Kassapa Sakko Devānam-indo, mama cetasā cetoparivitakkam-aññāya, mahatiṁ silaṁ upanikkhipi: ‘Idha Bhante Bhagavā paṁsukūlaṁ vissajjetū,’ ti sāyaṁ amanussena nikkhittā silā.” ti

Atha kho Uruvelakassapassa jaṭilassa etad-ahosi: “Mahiddhiko kho Mahāsamaṇo mahānubhāvo, yatra hi nāma Sakko pi PTS, Thai omit: pi.06 Devānam-indo veyyāvaccaṁ karissati, na tveva ca kho Arahā yathā ahan.”-ti

Atha kho Bhagavā Uruvelakassapassa jaṭilassa bhattaṁ bhuñjitvā, tasmiṁ yeva vanasaṇḍe vihāsi.
