Tena kho pana samayena Sāriputta-Moggallānā Thai: Sārīputt-, Thai always writes the name with a second long vowel like this. Sāriputta's mother's name was Rūpasārī, and his name means Sārī's son, the long vowel is lost in composition.02 Sañjaye paribbājake brahmacariyaṁ caranti, tehi katikā katā hoti: “Yo paṭhamaṁ Amataṁ adhigacchati, so itarassa PTS omits: itarassa.03 ārocetū.” ti

Atha kho āyasmā Assaji, pubbaṇhasamayaṁ nivāsetvā, pattacīvaram-ādāya Rājagahaṁ piṇḍāya pāvisi, pāsādikena abhikkantena paṭikkantena, ālokitena vilokitena, sammiñjitena pasāritena, okkhittacakkhu iriyāpathasampanno.

Yan-nūnāhaṁ imaṁ bhikkhuṁ upasaṅkamitvā puccheyyaṁ: ‘Kaṁsi tvaṁ āvuso uddissa pabbajito, ko vā te Satthā, kassa vā tvaṁ Dhammaṁ rocesī?’ ” ti

“Ye dhammā hetuppabhavā tesaṁ hetuṁ Tathāgato āha, Thai places āha in brackets. We need to read te to correct the metre, though all versions of this verse that I have seen have the equivalent of tesaṁ. The verse appears in Mahāvastu as: Ye dharmā hetuprabhavā hetuṁ teṣāṁ Tathāgataḥ hyavadat teṣāṁ ca yo nirodha evaṁ vādī Mahāśramaṇaḥ, which is again hypermetric in the first line, which suggests that it may have been hypermetric in the original.09
