praticaraṇavivddharephāḥ syur-arṇārṇavavyālajīmūtalīlākaroddāmaśaṁkhyādayaḥ S, V, Dh, P fn: -śaṅkhādayaḥ. The structure of the first of the Daṇḍaka metres described here is nicely summed up in a sūtra in ChŚā: Daṇḍakonauraḥ; first there are 2 nagaṇas, which are followed by a number of ragaṇas, Caṇḍavṣṭiprapāta having 7 ragaṇas; Arṇa 8, and so on - there are many more, V gives a list of 28, ending with Nanda, which has 34 ragaṇas following the opening two nagaṇas! ⁰⁴ || 168 ||

pracitakasamabhidho dhīradhībhiḥ smto daṇḍako nadvayāduttaraiḥ saptabhir-yaiḥ || 169 || S: nadvayāt-paratastakāreṇāpi kvacid-daṇḍakā dśyante; evam-ekonasahasrāśaravddhir-bhavati daṇḍakaṁ vttam. S has a note to the effect that these two sūtras are not seen in many of the books. They also appear to be sūtras rather than kārikas, and so are probably not part of the original text.⁰⁶
